My first book review...ever. I might suck at this so excuse me if i make some errors.
The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie is one of the best books I've read in a long time. The viewpoint is from Arnold Spirit(or better known by his nickname Junior). The main characters include...
Arnold Spirit(Main Character)
Junior's Mom(Very Smart)
Junior's Dad(Alchohalic)
Junior's Sister(Lives in basement)
Junior's Grandma(Gives Junior Advice)
Mr.P(His geomatry teacher)
Rowdy(Junior's best friend ever since they were little kids)
Gordy(Junior's friend)
Penelope(Junior's crush)
Eugene(Junior's dad's friend)
The plot is that Junior grew up in an Indian Reservation with many medical problems, like oversized head, poor eyesight, and more. This results of him being bullied by other kids on the Reservation. However, his best friend Rowdy defends him. Rowdy has known Junior for a long time, and is very strong.
People on the Reservation is poor, including Junior. When Junior goes too school one day when Mr.P is handing out the textbooks, he finds out that the textbook was used by his mom. Out of anger, he throws the book at Mr.P and gets suspended. He is later visited by Mr.P, and talks about how his sister has a passion for writing novels, specificly Romance one's. Mr.P later says that Junior should leave the reseveration, because Junior refuses to give up.
This leads too Junior transferring to Reardan, a all white school. He later tells his best friend Rowdy, and he got mad and punched Junior in the face. Junior's friendship with Rowdy is slowly sinking, and they don't talk too each other now. Is there still hope for Junior? Read it and find out.
This book is very well written overall, and you will be wondering what will happen page after page. The book is suppose to be for young adults, because their is inapropiate content in it throughout. There is humor throughout the book and it's share of sad parts. It all works beutifully. If you have the time and havn't read it yet, you should check this book out.
